ABOUT NORDISKA KOMPANIET, NK
Nordiska Kompaniet (colloquially NK, and literally The Nordic Company) is the name of a luxyry department store located in Stockholm.
1902 AB Nordiska Kompaniet is founded. Thirteen years later, they move into Hamngatan in Stockholm, in a grand building designed by Ferdinand Boberg, and thus Sweden gets its first major international department store.

Axel Einar Hjorth, one of Sweden's most significant furniture designers during the Swedish Grace era, was head designer of NK (Nordiska Kompaniet) furniture department 1927-38. He is also known for designing the so-called sports cabin furniture in pine for NK.

NK's production of furniture span over nearly seven decades - from 1904 until 1973 and employed the very foremost Swedish architects and designers during the period: Ferdinand Boberg, Carl Bergsten, Gunnar Asplund, Axel Einar Hjorth, Elias Svedberg, Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist, David Rosén and many, many more.

The workshops produced furniture and furnishings that set the tone in Swedish design history. Behind the early 20th century magnificence in exclusive materials are several masters who treated wood, sculpted decorative details, wallpapered, gilded and cast fittings. The workshops attract many skilled craftsmen from all over Sweden.

The NK furniture department undertook significant and esteemed interior design projects, including a lengthy series of embassy commissions, and actively participated in international design fairs.
